Endija: Sun makes it better

Endija: Sun makes it better

On the second episode of our section "Notes on living" I invite you to meet Endija (Latvia, Riga).

I've known Endija for several years, and one of the things that has always stood out to me is hers passion for travel and the beautiful stories and photographs she shares.

& - Could you introduce yourself in a few words?

Endija: I would describe myself as someone who is always looking for a bit more sun and meaning in life. Someone who loves sharing experiences through the stories I write and the photos I take in everyday life and while traveling.

As you already mentioned, travelling is a big part of that. Visiting places where the sun is more present truly boosts my energy. Somehow everything feels a little lighter and more enjoyable when the sun is shining, so I need it quite a lot. And by sun, I do not mean summer only. I have only recently realized that sunny winters can make me just as happy.

Sun. Sea. And mountains. I need all three close by.

Jumping to photography – there is something about analog photography that has always stayed close to me. Now more than ever, I appreciate it for what it is.

There is something special about waiting to see what you have captured and accepting the moment as is, instead of taking the same photo over and over again just to get the perfect one.

I think there is something perfect in those imperfections.

Ohh, and I cannot forget about writing. This is also something I cannot imagine my life without. Whether it is a short caption next to the photo I post on social media or a blog article about my travels on SunStories – I love expressing my thoughts and experiences through words as well.

& - What are the small rituals that shape your days?

Endija: An unhurried breakfast with my partner. Good coffee. A walk before work. Oh, and attempting to squeeze my cat.

Before turning on my work switch, it is really important for me to have a bit of my own life first. Those moments come before work. Only then I am ready to start the day.

& - What does beauty in everyday life mean to you?

Endija: Beauty in everyday life means noticing the little moments and making time for yourself and the people you love, no matter how busy life gets.

Maybe photography has taught me that beauty is often hidden in ordinary moments. You just need to slow down and pay attention.

& - Could you share a recipe that is simple, quick, and genuinely delicious?

Endija: Is there anything more simple and, at the same time, more magical than tomato bread?
Soft wheat bread with a slightly crunchy crust.
Butter.
A few slices of a good, aromatic tomato.
Tiny slices of onion.
A pinch of salt and pepper (by the way, &Salt products are excellent for this).
This is love.

& - What is something simple that consistently makes life better?

Endija: Slowing down. You see, feel, and experience things differently when you stop rushing.

& - When do you feel most present?

Endija: When I am in nature with my favourite person. Hugged by turquoise-blue waters or majestic mountains.

& - Complete the sentence: {word} makes it better

Endija: Sun makes it better.
