Salt, Clay & Ritual: A Ceramic Salt Cellar Workshop

Salt, Clay & Ritual: A Ceramic Salt Cellar Workshop

A slow evening of taste, clay, and everyday ritual

Together with Spring and Fall studio, we invite you to a special evening centered around two essential materials: salt and clay.

At first, they may seem unrelated. But both speak about the same things — simplicity, usefulness, touch, ritual, and the beauty of everyday objects made with intention.

When we first met Agnė, founder of Spring and Fall studio, the connection felt immediate. We shared a similar way of seeing home, objects, and daily life: fewer things, chosen well. Objects that are not only beautiful, but truly used. Things that quietly become part of our routines and rituals.

This workshop brings those ideas together through taste, form, and slow creation.

Why salt?

For centuries, salt has symbolized life, purity, friendship, and connection. In many cultures, it was something shared at the table — a sign of hospitality and care.

Even the salt cellar once held special meaning. Historically placed at the center of the table, it represented generosity, status, and gathering. Today, it returns in a quieter form: as a simple object used every day, carrying ritual into ordinary moments.

What we will do

Over the course of approximately 2.5–3 hours, we will move through a slow and sensory experience where taste and form meet.

We will begin with a guided tasting of premium Australian sea salts by &Salt, exploring their origin, mineral qualities, texture, and role in everyday cooking and wellbeing.

From there, we will transition into clay work, hand-building our own unique salt cellars — simple forms designed to become part of the daily table.

Each participant will create one salt cellar and decorate it using special underglaze colors suitable for raw clay. After the workshop, the pieces will dry, be kiln-fired, glazed with a transparent finish, and fired once more. Finished pieces will be ready to take home within approximately 2–3 weeks.

What you will take home

  • A slow and meaningful creative experience
  • Your own handmade salt cellar
  • A deeper appreciation for salt as an everyday ritual
  • A small gift from &Salt — premium sea salt to continue the experience at home
